Why hoods get replaced

Stone rash, edge rust along the front lip, cracked corners from decades of slamming, and front-end collisions that fold a panel too large to pull straight economically. A hood is also the most-seen panel on the vehicle — waves and filler show in low light from ten metres.

Fitting

A two-person bolt-on job: transfer latch, safety catch and hinges, sit the hood loose, and walk it into even alignment against cowl and fenders before tightening. Adjust bump stops and latch last so the front edge sits flush.
